The Honorable Scott Singer
Mayor, City of Boca Raton

Mayor Singer is proud to have served as a strong voice for Boca Raton’s residents since he was first elected to the city council in 2014. He was re-elected in 2017, and was appointed by the city council to serve as deputy mayor. On April 27, 2018, he became mayor of Boca Raton.

He is a South Florida native and elated to live and raise his family in Boca Raton.

Mayor Singer graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in government, and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He owns several small businesses, including a law firm focused on entrepreneurs. As an attorney, he has earned the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

He has made improving and strengthening Boca Raton’s schools a priority. Mayor Singer came up with a plan to obtain the first new public school in Boca Raton in decades, with his proposal for the school district to build a new elementary school on unused city parcels near an existing site. This plan would give a brand new school in Boca by 2020, and enable expansions at other schools, and will help add nearly 1,300 student seats to Boca Raton. Mayor Singer also brought forward a proposal, now implemented, for Boca to partner with a non-profit for mental health counseling for Boca high school students, a first for a local city. He has also supported greater funding to enhance the school safety efforts of the school district.

Mayor Singer cares deeply about enhancing the quality of life for Boca Raton residents. He has partnered with residents and local architects on exploring visions for our public, waterfront lands. The waterfront visioning session he organized yielded concepts for the revitalization of the wildflower site, and he voted to keep that site as recreational, not commercial. He has worked to preserve and enhance the look of Boca Raton by proposing a change in policy that now requires more open space for downtown projects, sponsoring an ordinance to limit excessive signs from city medians and green space, and supporting expanding parks and playing fields. Having lived on a barrier island for more than 20 years, he is sensitive to the concerns of residents who live east of the Intracoastal.

He has worked to increase transparency and accessibility of city government, by introducing laws to expand notices to residents on land-use issues, to ease the requirements for starting home-based businesses, and pushing for greater technology to make it easier to find information and obtain permits. Mayor Singer also sponsored three resolutions increasing ethics standards and transparency. In his first year in office, he began holding the first series of regular town hall meetings by a council member in many years, which continues today.

Mayor Singer’s priorities include maintaining best-in-class public safety, increasing economic development efforts to attract outstanding companies and workforce talent, keeping taxes low for families and businesses, protecting against overdevelopment, and developing long-term strategies to ensure Boca Raton continues to progress as a world-class city.

He and his wife Bella are proud to live and raise their two young children in Boca Raton. Mayor Singer and his family enjoy Boca’s parks, beaches, and libraries. Fun fact – He likes fun facts and has appeared on two nationally syndicated TV game shows: “Jeopardy!,” where he was a champion, and “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?”
