Omar Arroyo, the Mayor of Haines City, Florida, has dedicated his life to serving his community and advocating for its growth. Born in 1983, Omar immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1999, settling in Austin, Texas, before moving to Haines City in 2001. At just 16, he began a career in residential framing and has since become a certified contractor in Florida.
Omar’s political journey is marked by significant milestones. In 2022, he made history as the first Hispanic commissioner in Haines City. The following year, he became the first vice mayor and, in 2024, he was elected as the first Hispanic mayor of Haines City, as well as the first Mexican mayor in Florida.
Beyond his political achievements, Omar is actively involved in his community. He serves as the chairman of the HCA Board of Poinciana Hospital and is an active board member of the United Way. He also participates in the Florida League of Mayors, Florida League of Cities, the Florida Black Caucus, and volunteers with various nonprofits around Polk County, including Unity in the Community.
Omar is passionate about supporting youth in sports and the arts, believing in the importance of fostering talent and creativity. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife of 19 years and their three children, often vacationing together to explore caves and hiking trails. A true fan of his heritage, Omar has a particular love for tacos, which he proudly embraces as part of his culture.
