Mayor, City of Weston
Mayor Margaret (Peggy) Brown was first elected to office in November 2020. She served as a City Commissioner from November 2016 to November 2020. She successfully ran for Mayor in November 2020 becoming Weston’s fourth Mayor and its first female Mayor.
As Commissioner, she was appointed by her peers on the City Commission as Director for the Broward League of Cities Board of Directors (2018 – Current). Mayor Brown was also selected to serve on the Solid Waste Working Group and the 2018-2019, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Community and Public Safety Task Force for Broward County. In 2017 she participated in the Broward Leaders Water Academy.
Until just recently, Mayor Brown was the Regional Executive Director of the Center for Hearing and Communications in Florida, a not-for-profit agency, which provides life-affirming hearing health care, audiological services, educational workshops and trainings, after school programs, case management, mental health counseling, and advocacy for the hard-of-hearing, deaf, and deaf/blind in South Florida.
Prior to joining the Center for Hearing and Communications, Mayor Brown served as the Executive Director for the COPD Foundation, a national not-for-profit dedicated to developing and supporting programs which improve the quality of life through research, education, advocacy, early diagnosis and enhanced therapy for persons whose lives are impacted by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Prior to the COPDF, Mayor Brown worked for the Walgreen Company. There she held positions as Regional Market Recruiter and Regional Supervisor for Business Integration. She was responsible for the recruitment and hiring of pharmacy personnel. Formerly, employed by Nova Southeastern University, she has experience in Admissions, as well as Student Affairs and Services for the Health Professions and for the College of Pharmacy.
Commissioner Brown has chaired several prestigious college and university committees. Currently, she serves on the Executive Board of HAAPE (Helping Autistic Adults Perform and Excel). Previously, a member of the Non-Profit Executive Alliance of Broward County, the Broward Council on Aging, the Deaf Service Center Association of Florida, United Way of Broward County – Women United, and member of the Institutional Review Board for Barry University. Throughout her career, Commissioner Brown has been extensively involved with the educational, business, and healthcare communities.
Mayor Brown is a long-time resident of Florida (since the late 1950s) and a resident of Weston since 1999. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a member of Psi Chi, and was selected as a Fellow while at Connecticut College. She later continued her studies in Psychology in the master’s program. Upon moving back to Florida in 1999, she enrolled in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nova Southeastern University. There she attained a Master of Science degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and continued her Doctoral work with an emphasis on Organizational Conflict.
She is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and served proudly and honorably for 4 years. She is married to Eric Byron Brown, a Retired Coast Guard Commander and currently, the Assistant Director of Public Works for the Town of Palm Beach. They are the proud parents of two daughters, and grandparents to three grandsons.
